NANO HOUSE AT IRITTY

Ms. Jobiya Jayan livies in Vattapara a small village in Padiyoorgrama Panchayat, Kanoor District, Kerala. Her family includes her husband Mr. Jayan and two little children Megha and Melbin, studying in 6th and 4th STD.

Ms. Jobiya Jayan joined DORA Iritty branch on July 26th 2013. She was introduced to DORA by Field Coordinator Ms. Sofi Joseph. On learning about DORA she joined and became a member of  unit no 001. This unit was formed under the leadership of Mrs. Rosamma Joseph who was the Branch Manager then. First she took a first cycle loan of Rs.10, 000/-.

With this amount she used it in income generation activity. She bought a tailoring machine. In the next year she took second cycle loan of Rs.15, 000/- The small income she got from tailoring was not enough to reconstruct their house. That income she received was used for children’s education and family expense.

Ms. Jobiya Jayan used to attend Believers Church, Thanthode.  The vicar of that church Rev.Fr. Poulose learned that DORA is helping the poor by building Nano house for the poor and the needy. On learning this he suggested her name has situation of the house was really bad. He discussed this matter with Iritty Branch Manager Mr. Roy. Then field Co-Ordinator Ms. Sofi Joseph gave a picture   and from Head Office decided to financial help by donating Rs-1,70,000/-. This money was used to complete the construction of the house. The dedication is on June last week.






NANO HOUSE AT THIRUVALLA



Ms. Omana Chacko is a member of Dora Microfinance, Thiruvalla branch, unit no. 45, Chumathra.

Omana’s family consists of her husband, Mr. Chacko and two daughters, Meenu and Meena aged 23 and 20 years. Mr. Chacko suffered a stroke five years ago which left him paralyzed.

With no income this family struggled to meet their daily needs.

They lived in a small house which was semi- constructed. The house didn’t have proper roofing, windows, doors or proper sanitation facility.  

Ms. Omana was a member of Believers Church. Over there she met Field Coordinator Sneha K.Thampi. She introduced Omana to DORA. On learning about DORA activities, she became interested in DORA. 
She joined DORA Thiruvalla branch in 2010. She took 1st cycle loan.


On learning their situation, Dora took initiative to help them. DORA decided to further help them by giving elder daughter Meenu a job. She was made a staff of Bridge Of Hope – child care wing of Believers Church. This slightly solved their financial crisis. After that Dora with the help of Believers church built a home for them in April 2015. Their house dedication was on 23rd May 2015.


WORLD TOBACCO DAY




World Tobacco Day was celebrated on 30/05/2015 at Meenangadi town at 11:30 am. It was conducted by DORA Microfinance Meenangadi staff members along with the association of Believers church, Meenangadi & Bridge of Hope, Meenangadi.

The program started from Meenangadi KSEB junction. Fr. Nainan, Fr. Varghese and Pastor Joseph, BOH staff, students, church members, and DORA members participated in this program. Fr. Nainan inaugurated this program. Fr. Varghese gave awareness message to public.

The main objective of the program was to spread awareness among people. Figures show tobacco kills almost six million people a year, and more than 600,000 of them are non-smokers who die from indirect smoke inhalation. It’s expected to kill over eight million people by the year 2030.

Person consuming tobacco can have a negative effect on their family members. It can lose peace and happiness in their life. Most people use it as an escape route for social, personal or career pressures but in turn can lead to liver damage, lungs, heart attack and other debilitating conditions.

DORA unit members and public responded to the rally very positively. Over 120 people attended the program.






NANO HOUSE


DORA MICROFINANCE once again led a helping hand to the poor and downtrodden. On the month of April 2015, three houses was dedicated to three families. Their stories are as follows.

Previous House

Ms. Ajitha B S is a member of DORA Microfinance, Aryanad branch. She used to live in a small tarpaulin sheet covered room in Binuja Bhavan, Venkottukavu, Puthukulangara P.O, Nedumangad.
Her family consists of two children. Binuja, 19 yrs and Jithu, 16 yrs. Her husband died of pneumonia and hepatitis at Trivandrum Medical Collage Hospital in 2012.
She is a member of Believers Church, Kulappada. Ms. Sobha P was the field coordinator then, through her Ajitha learned about DORA and its activities. She was happy to learn about DORA which eventually made her join DORA, Aryanad branch unit no-044 on 15/09/2010.

Understanding their present condition, Kulappada church pastor recommended building a house for the family. Along with Trivandrum Area Manger approval, a request was send to Head Office, Synod Secretariat.

After discussion with church leaders, DORA had agreed to build a house for Ms. Ajitha and family.

Construction for the house began on April 2015. At present the concrete work is almost complete. Proposed work is proposed to complete in June 2015.
